3 Ways to Persevere When Things Get Tough
We’ve all been there. Heck you’re probably “there” right. Where things feel like they suck — like life just threw you some serious curveballs. And when that happens, it can feel like the weight of the world is on your shoulders.
But here’s the thing: those tough moments are where REAL growth happens. Because as I always say, we never really are growing if we’re always comfortable. Hear me though, it’s not about never feeling stuck; it’s about finding ways to keep pushing forward. Even when things suck.
Here are three easy ways to persevere even when things get tough:
1. Reconnect with Your “Why”
I know you’re probably sick of people telling you to “remember your why”. But the truth is when life gets hard, it’s easy to lose sight of why you started in the first place. It’s so important, and powerful, to take a step back and remind yourself what drives you. What truly keeps pushing you forward. Maybe it’s a passion project, a dream you’ve been chasing, or the impact you want to make on others. Your “why” is what gives you strength in those challenging times. So hold onto it, and let it guide you through.
2. One Step at a Time
Big obstacles can feel impossible when you try to tackle them all at once. Instead, focus on what you can do right now. Break things down into small, manageable steps. We often see a problem and it feels overwhelming and we don’t even know where to being. It’s ok to start super small. Each step, no matter how small, moves you closer to where you want to be. Progress is progress—even if it’s inch by inch.
3. Lean on Your People
Here’s something we don’t talk about enough: it’s okay to ask for help. We weren’t meant to do life alone. Reach out to the people who support you—friends, family, mentors. Sometimes, just hearing someone say, “You’ve got this,” can change everything. Don’t carry the weight by yourself when there are people who want to help lighten the load. We weren’t mean to walk difficult paths alone. It doesn’t prove you’re “strong”. True strength comes from being to admit you can’t do it alone.
At the end of the day, perseverance isn’t about being perfect or never stumbling. It’s about keeping your eyes on your purpose, taking things one step at a time, and leaning on those who are in your corner. You’ve got what it takes—now, keep going (as I say this to myself in this moment too!)
