Say I Won’t
Perspective. It really does change everything.
Last week the band MercyMe released a brand new single called “Say I Won’t” and I have had this song on repeat this week.
The chorus goes like this…
“I’m gonna run
No I’m gonna fly
I’m gonna know what it means to live
And not just be alive
The world’s gonna hear
Cause I’m gonna shout
And I will be dancing when circumstances drown the music out
Say I won’t”
My entire life I have had people who told me that I’m not educated enough, I don’t come from a well-to-do family, I don’t have enough experience, I’m not creative enough, and on and on.
Every time I’ve heard disbelief in my abilities I’ve made a choice, and taken it as a challenge. No one will define me, except me.
I remember when I would tell my mom something like “Oh they made me so mad” and my mom would reply with, “No they didn’t ‘make’ you anything. You allowed them to. You are in control of how people make you feel.”
You may have people around you that you aren’t enough. You don’t belong. Your voice isn’t necessary at the table.
But you know what? As MercyMe says, “The world’s gonna hear, cause I’m gonna shout”.
Don’t allow the ignorance of others to define who you are. When they say you can’t, don’t, won’t, aren’t able to….you prove them wrong. Until they can deny your brilliance no longer.
Why? Because you are worthy. As the second verse in the song says,
“Not enough
Is what I’ve been told
But it must be a lie
Cause the Spirit inside says I’m so much more
So let them say what they want
Oh I dare them to try”
